Ezekiel and the Valley of Dry Bones

Yahuah brought Ezekiel to a valley full of dry bones and asked: 'Can these bones live?' Through prophetic declaration, the bones came together, received flesh, and the breath of Yahuah brought them to life.

The Story

Ezekiel was a priest taken into Babylonian exile. Yahuah's hand came upon him and carried him out in the Spirit to a valley full of bones — very many and very dry. These bones represented the whole house of Israel, who said: 'Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off!'

Yahuah asked Ezekiel a question that seemed absurd: 'Son of man, can these bones live?' Ezekiel wisely answered: 'O Yahuah Elohim, You know.' He did not say yes or no — he deferred to Yahuah's power.

Then Yahuah commanded Ezekiel to prophesy to the bones: 'O dry bones, hear the word of Yahuah!' As Ezekiel spoke, there was a rattling noise. Bone connected to bone. Sinews appeared, then flesh, then skin covered them. But there was no breath in them.

Yahuah said: 'Prophesy to the breath... Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.' Ezekiel prophesied, and breath entered them. They stood on their feet — an exceedingly great army.

This vision is about resurrection — both national (Israel's restoration) and spiritual (Yahuah's power to bring life from death). No situation is too dead for Yahuah. No hope is too lost. No bones are too dry. When Yahuah speaks, the dead live.

Lessons Learned

Nothing is too dead for Yahuah to resurrect. His Word has the power to bring life from the driest, most hopeless situations. When He speaks, bones live.
