The Ethiopian Eunuch — Scripture on the Road
A powerful Ethiopian official was reading Isaiah on the road from Jerusalem but couldn't understand it — until Yahuah sent Philip to explain that the prophet was speaking of Yahusha HaMashiach.
The Story
An angel of Yahuah spoke to Philip: 'Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.' This was desert road — an unlikely place for ministry.
Philip obeyed and encountered a man of great authority: a eunuch serving Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasury. He had come to Jerusalem to worship and was returning home, sitting in his chariot reading the scroll of Isaiah.
The Spirit told Philip: 'Go near and overtake this chariot.' Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah 53: 'He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so He opened not His mouth.'
Philip asked: 'Do you understand what you are reading?' The eunuch replied: 'How can I, unless someone guides me?' He invited Philip to sit with him and asked: 'Of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?'
Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at that Scripture, preached Yahusha HaMashiach to him. As they traveled, they came to water. The eunuch said: 'See, here is water. What hinders me from being immersed?' Philip immersed him.
When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of Yahuah caught Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more — but went on his way rejoicing.
This story shows that Yahuah orchestrates divine appointments. A eunuch — excluded from the Temple assembly by Deuteronomy 23:1 — was welcomed into the kingdom through Yahusha HaMashiach. The gospel breaks every barrier.
