Daniel in the Lions' Den

Daniel refused to stop praying to Yahuah despite a royal decree. He was thrown into a den of lions, but Yahuah sent His messenger to shut the lions' mouths.

The Story

Daniel had served faithfully under multiple Babylonian and Persian kings. His integrity was so exceptional that King Darius planned to set him over the whole realm. This provoked jealousy among the other officials, who conspired to destroy him.

Knowing Daniel's unwavering devotion to Yahuah, they tricked King Darius into signing a decree: for thirty days, anyone who prayed to any elohim or man except the king would be thrown into the den of lions.

Daniel knew about the decree. He went home, opened his windows toward Jerusalem, and prayed three times a day — exactly as he had always done. He did not hide. He did not compromise. He did not pray silently to avoid detection. His faithfulness to Yahuah was non-negotiable.

The officials caught him and reported to the king, who was deeply distressed but bound by his own law. Daniel was thrown into the lions' den. Darius said to him: 'Your Elohim, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you.'

Yahuah sent His messenger and shut the lions' mouths. Daniel spent the night unharmed. In the morning, Darius rushed to the den and called out. Daniel answered: 'My Elohim sent His messenger and shut the lions' mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him.'

Daniel's enemies were then thrown into the den, and the lions overpowered them immediately — proving that the lions were not tame, but restrained by Yahuah's power.
